ABSTRACT

This study aimed to develop docetaxel (DTX) loaded poly(lactic-coglycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles (DTX-NPs) and to evaluate the different pharmacological sensitivity of NPs to MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. NPs containing DTX or coumarin-6 were prepared by the nanoprecipitation method using PLGA as a polymer and d-α-tocopherol polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (TPGS) as a surfactant. The physicochemical properties of NPs were characterized. In vitro anticancer effect and cellular uptake were evaluated in breast cancer cells. The particle size and zeta potential of the DTX-NPs were 160.5 ± 3.0 nm and –26.7 ± 0.46 mV, respectively. The encapsulation efficiency and drug loading were 81.3 ± 1.85% and 10.6 ± 0.24%, respectively. The In vitro release of DTX from the DTX-NPs was sustained at pH 7.4 containing 0.5% Tween 80. The viability of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 cells with DTX-NPs was 37.5 ± 0.5% and 30.3 ± 1.13%, respectively. The IC 50 values of DTX-NPs were 3.92- and 6.75-fold lower than that of DTX for MDA-MB-231 cells and MCF-7 cells, respectively. The cellular uptake of coumarin-6-loaded PLGA-NPs in MCF-7 cells was significantly higher than that in MDA-MB-231 cells. The pharmacological sensitivity in breast cancer cells was higher on MCF-7 cells than on MDA-MB-231 cells. In conclusion, we successfully developed DTX-NPs that showed a great potential for the controlled release of DTX. DTX-NPs are an effective formulation for improving anticancer effect in breast cancer cells.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To examine the in vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory effects of the alkaloid enriched extract (ELA) from the roots of Eurycoma longifolia. Methods:The in vitro anti-inflammatory effects of ELA were evaluated by examining its inhibitory activities against nitric oxide (NO) production and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) expressions in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. The level of NO produced in the culture media was determined by Griess method. The iNOS and COX-2 protein expressions were analyzed by Western blot. The in vivo effect of ELA was evaluated on LPS-induced septic shock in mice model.Mice mortality was monitored for 5 days after injection of LPS.The chemical contents of the ELA were determined by using various chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques. Results:The ELA was found to exhibit a significant anti-inflammatory effect in both in vitro and in vio models. The results demonstrated that ELA dose-dependently inhibited LPS-induced NO production as well as the protein iNOS and COX-2 expressions. In the septic shock model,ELA dose-dependently protected mice from LPS-induced mortality.Further study on the isolated components of ELA indicated that 9,1 0-dimethoxycanthin-6-one may contribute significantly to the anti-inflammatory effects of the extract. Conclusions:These results suggest that ELA exhibits the anti-inflammatory activity via suppression of pro-inflammatory mediators such as NO, iNOS,and COX-2 and protects mice from LPS-induced mortality in septic shock model.

ABSTRACT

Background: Obstetric complications always are the risk factors which impact on pregnant women, especially no having care and treatment on time. Objectives: (1) To determine the rate of obstetric complications in some communes of Hoai Duc district, Ha Tay province. (2) To identify some factors which may have impact obstetric complications in the community. Subjects and method: Conducting a cross ?sectional survey with 363 women randomly chosen for sampling from the list of 1.530 women of reproductive age having terminated their pregnancy dressed for a six ?month period (from 1 October 2004 to 31 March 2005) in 10 communes of Hoai Duc district, Ha Tay province. Results: The obstetric complications rate was 9.9%. Obstetric complications recorded under the research often had the following forms: hemorrhage (94.4%), infection and pre ?eclampsia/eclampsia, each of them (2.8%). obstetric complications regularly happened with women of over 40 years old (20%). Those complications were closely linked to vaginal bleeding symptom during pregnant period with p<0.05. Conclusion: Obstetric complication rate was 9.9%, mostly hemorrhage. There was close relation between obstetric complication with vaginal bleeding symptom during pregnant period.

ABSTRACT

A female patients with ages of 3 admitted urgently in the Institute of ophthalmology in 12/2001 due to the a white spot in the right eye. The examination, paraclinical tests diagnosed as a worm invaded into the ocular anterior chamber that damaged the iris. The patients operated emergency after 3 hours of hospitalization. The results have shown that the causative agent was Angiostrongylus wantonness (male) with opaque, length of 15 mm its stem covered by smooth peal, circle head and obvious teeth.

ABSTRACT

A randomized study involved 1,000 women who were 18-44 years of old at Hµ Néi Obstetric-Gynecological Hospital, Hai Bµ Trng Maternity Clinic, and Obstetric Department of Thanh Nhµn Hospital. The cross-sectional survey showed that mean age of participants was 34.1 years. Mean age of leukorrhoea group was 33.4 years and of non-leukorrhoea group was 34.7 years. Mean age at time of marriage was 23.5. Most of participants were housewifery and official, and have finished only primary and secondary school. Severe leukorrhoea was seen in 50.4% of the participants. Most of them (98.4%) have sex relationship only with their husbands. 28.2% have not used any contraceptive method. 0.2% of the participants have external genital ulcer. 31.7% have cervical erosion. 16.5% have pelvicitis.

ABSTRACT

A study on 40 patients in the Traumatic Department of the National Institute of Ophthalmology was carried out. The results: 16 patients with ages of under 40, with the soft nuclear 1+, 2+ received a vitrectomy by pars-plana. 16 patients with the solid nuclear 3+, 4+ received an anterior segment vitrectomy in intravitreal surgery. 8 patients with the luxation of lens in to vitreous cell received the method of penetration for moving the lens to the anterior room and lens was removed via cornea combined with vitrectomy. Some patients were received an indication of the implantation of ILO concurrently

ABSTRACT

The most vulnerable age of this cancer is 30 to 46 years old, the prevalence is 30% in menopause age and the cancer occurs usually in the subjects with a history of gynecological infectious disease; patients were admitted in late stage. 31 of 89 patients were treated by simple radiotherapy. The commonly applied surgeries were amputation of the neck cap of uterus and total resection of uterus. Combined therapy with irradiation and surgery was conducted in 35 cases and untreated cases accounted for 6; in addition, there were 6 pregnant cases of cancer were treated surgically and radiologically after abortion or delivery with very bad prognostic.
